Reynolds et al. found that advising adults with type 2 diabetes to walk 10 minutes after each main meal lowered post-meal glucose by 12% on average, rising to 22% after the evening meal, when compared with the same total walking time taken at any point in the day 1. DiPietro et al. and Bellini et al. reproduced a version of the same effect in older adults at risk of impaired glucose tolerance and in healthy young volunteers, suggesting the mechanism holds across ages and metabolic states 23.

That evidence sat quietly in exercise physiology journals for a decade before biochemist Jessie Inchauspe's Glucose Goddess brand renamed it a glucose-spike 'hack' for her 1.8 million-strong following, and TikTok's 2024 'fart walk' framing added a digestive angle that pushed the habit into mainstream coverage.
